Route Guide
The Lifeline Flight
The EIS–STT route is the most important in Tortola aviation. For residents, it's the gateway to the mainland — the first leg of every business trip, medical appointment, and family visit. For visitors, it's often the final inter-island hop before the long flight home. Three carriers operate this route with combined service throughout the day, making it the most reliably connected inter-island route from EIS. Note that Fly the Whale's STT service now operates from Isla Grande Airport (SIG) rather than Luis Muñoz Marín — a practical upgrade for travelers who want to avoid the sprawling main terminal.
💡 Booking Tips
Tips for This Route
🏙️
Two St. Thomas Airports
Fly the Whale now operates from Isla Grande Airport (SIG) — a smaller, more convenient airport in Santurce, about 12–15 minutes from Luis Muñoz Marín (STT). If you're connecting to a mainline flight, confirm which airport your EIS flight arrives at.
⏱️
Build Connection Time at STT
Allow at least 90 minutes between your EIS arrival and any onward departures from LMM. The inter-island terminal is separate from the main international gates — factor in the transfer and potential baggage claim.
🔗
Interline Ticketing
Cape Air has interline agreements with American Airlines. Booking a through-ticket EIS–STT–[mainland] on American protects you if the Cape Air segment is delayed — AA will rebook your connection at no charge.
🌆
St. Thomas Is Worth a Stop
If you have a layover of 3+ hours, consider heading to Old St. Thomas — 15 minutes by taxi from the airport. The colorful colonial streets, El Morro fortress, and excellent restaurants make it one of the best airport layovers in the Caribbean.
