The BVI is Villa Country

The British Virgin Islands is one of the Caribbean's premier villa rental destinations. Hundreds of private villas dot Tortola's hillsides and coastline, many with private pools, stunning views, and full staff. For groups of 4 or more staying a week or longer, a villa often costs less per person than a resort and delivers a far more private experience.

BVI Accommodation Booking Tips

What to know before you book your stay in Tortola.

📅
Book Early for Peak Season
December through April is peak BVI season -- Scrub Island, Long Bay, and Sugar Mill sell out months ahead. The BVI Spring Regatta in late March fills the whole island. Book as early as possible for holiday and regatta periods -- prices can be 2-3x off-season rates.
🌂
Shoulder Season Sweet Spot
May and June offer excellent weather with 30-40% lower rates and far fewer crowds. Early November is also good. July through October is hurricane season -- weather risk is real but most weeks are fine, and rates are significantly discounted.
Sailors: Choose Your Marina Carefully
If you're joining a sailing charter, confirm your base marina before booking accommodation. Nanny Cay, Village Cay (Road Town), and Soper's Hole (West End) are the main charter bases. Stay the night before embarkation near your marina -- not on the other side of the island.
🏛
Villas Beat Resorts for Groups
For groups of 4+ staying a week or more, a private villa frequently costs less per person than resort rooms and offers a pool, full kitchen, and genuine privacy. BVI villa inventory is exceptional -- some of the finest private rental properties in the Caribbean are on Tortola's hillsides.
🍴
You Will Need a Taxi or Car
Unlike some Caribbean resorts that are self-contained, most Tortola accommodations require transport to reach restaurants and beaches outside the property. Budget for taxis or rent a car. The island is small but the mountain roads mean things take longer than the map suggests.
💵
Check for BVI Tourism Tax
The BVI charges accommodation tax on top of room rates. Confirm the total all-in nightly cost including taxes and any resort fees before booking. Booking.com typically shows the full price upfront, which simplifies comparison across properties.
